Keep The Camanachd Flag Flying. The genesis of this book in September 2005 was the happy occasion of a sixth Sutherland cup final appearance for Aberdeen University Shinty club. Pondering the content for a post match speech I realised that in a little over six years it would be 150 years since the club was constituted – The oldest surviving Shinty club constitution. In Scotland, Shinty was played from the lowlands to the highlands and as far west as St Kilda. Farther east the game had also taken hold with the reverend Angus Bethune, a graduate of Kings College in 1832, recalling that some of his Ross-shire ancestors played Shinty when students at Aberdeen more than 200 years ago. Similarly, Hutchison notes that by the 17th century it is clear that the two main outdoor sports at Aberdeen University were Shinty and golf.
