Oban – United in Sport. The production of this book was inspired by research undertaken by Alan Hill for John Robertson of Kingussie on the game of shinty and Alan’s original idea was to set down a pictorial account of shinty in Oban. Soon however the decision was made to reflect the wider interest in other sports which has grown at different times and at different rates. An attempt has been made to preserve photographs and to provide details of names, dates and places as accurately as possible. This latter task proved in some cases not an easy one, as the number of people able to recall past events becomes inevitably smaller within the passage of time.
